Another Pioneer Has Fallen
On Monday the notes of the tolling bell announced the departure from our midst, of another of the pioneers of Oakland County, Capt Robert Thompson. He had remained with us until the 2nd day of March, he would have completed his 69th year. He first came to the state in 1828, forty-six years ago with a view of making a home in these then western wilds. He settled on the farm he owned at the time of his death, three miles south east of Milford, and there surrounded by the fruits of his toil he continued to reside until a few months of his decease when his rapidly failing health, making constant medical care necessary, he was removed to the residence of his son-in-law, Dr. Z. M. Mowry, in this village. His funeral was attended by a large gathering of his fellow townsmen, all uniting in this last testimonial of respect to the memory of the departed.
